Faculty of Agriculture in Osijek
The Faculty of Agriculture operates as part of the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek and is one of its oldest members. On 18th October 2010 the Faculty marked its 50th year of existence.
In addition to education through its academic undergraduate, graduate, professional and postgraduate study programmes, the Faculty’s core activity includes scientific and research work, especially in the biotechnical science, the scientific field of agronomy.
The Faculty’s teaching and research staff has the task to educate students, through gradual introduction into the world of basic insights regarding plants and animals and cultivation and breeding technologies, in order for them to be able to manage the process of agricultural production, the ultimate goal of which is to produce food for human consumption. In this complex educational process, teachers also apply their own insights gained from their scientific and professional work, thus enriching and modernizing the education of students.
In parallel with the educational work, assistants and professors, as well as expert associates, carry out scientific research in biology, chemistry, nutrition and the protection and genetics of plants and animals, mechanization and economics in crop and livestock production, all this aimed at the qualitative and quantitative improvement of food production, at the lowest possible cost while preserving the nature, environment and human health.
